4 CD CELLO 2017

The 4CD box set of the 2017 first Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition, will be available as from Saturday 10 June 2017.
You can now pre-order it!

80 years after the first Eugène Ysaÿe competition in 1937 in Brussels, the month of May will see 70 cellists from 22 countries rivalling each other to see who will succeed David Oistrakh and Emil Gilels, the first winners of the competitions for respectively violin and piano. We shall know on the evening of 3 June 2017 who will be the first cellist to win this first Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition. Historic!

If all the very early recordings of Oistrakh, Gilels, Kogan, Fleisher or Ashkenazy had been preserved and were available today, they would certainly make collectors very happy. That is why this year the Competition will also record all the first round performances of the 70 preselected candidates. Extracts of this first round will certainly be appearing in the annual 4CD box set, and this supplementary repertory will add even more to the box set of the competition’s highlights. And of course, as every year, these young laureates will also be heard in their chamber music programme of the semi-finals, in their performances of the Haydn and Boccherini concertos in the semi-finals with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie conducted by Frank Braley, as well as in the great repertory concertos in the final with the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Stéphane Denève.

The 4CD box set Cello 2017 will therefore be a ‘collector’s item’ to be listened to and carefully preserved. Produced once more in record time (6 days), yet always with the highest levels of technical and artistic requirements, it will also be innovative in its presentation.

The 4CD box set of the highlights of the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition is available at the price of 45,00- € + (5,00- € shipping costs).
The box set will be shipped by post as soon as it is available, on 10 June 2017.

You will also receive a new surprise CD by former laureates of the piano competition (Boris Giltburg, Denis Kozhukhin and Lukas Vondracek) if you order on this website !
