The Queen Elisabeth Competition is holding a competition for singers from 1 to 12 May 2018
. This competition is for musicians who have completed their training and who are ready to embark upon an international career.
Of the 312
candidates whose videos have been screened, 64
have been admitted to the first public round of the Competition. As some of them have withdrawn since the preselection round, there are 55
singers who will participate. We count 37 women and 18 men, representing 18 nationalities in total.- Schedule of the first round (pdf)- Alphabetical list of the voice 2018 candidates- List of nationalities (pdf)- List of the Jury members
You are probably wondering why this edition is much shorter than the instrumental editions. In the wake of the previous voice competition (2014), we carried out an in-depth review, in consultation with a number of leading figures from the world of vocal music. It very quickly became clear that our competition was much longer than the majority of other voice competitions, most of which only last for about one week. Singers are dependent on the schedules of opera houses and opera studios. This means that making themselves available for lengthy periods is more complicated for them. Accordingly, we have decided to shorten the performances somewhat, reducing each round by one day and thereby making it possible to organise the competition over two weeks.
The first round
and the semi-final
include a recital accompanied by piano. In the final
round, candidates will be accompanied by La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra
, cond. Alain Altinoglu
are available at Bozar
(first round, semi-final, final, and first six laureates' concert) and Flagey
(first round, semi-final and recitals).
