A total of 75 candidates were admitted to the first round of this year's piano competition. As some candidates have withdrawn, there are 63 actual participants, 25 women and 38 men, of 18 different nationalities. In the news you can download their order of appearance and an overview of their nationalities. Below you will find an overview of the performances in the first round, per day and per session.

Programme
Each candidate will play a prelude and fugue from J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, the first movement of a classical sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert, and the work of his or her choice. To complete the candidate’s programme, the jury will select one or more études from among the four études prepared by the candidate (one by Chopin, one by Liszt, one by Debussy, and one chosen from among the études of Bartók, Dusapin, Ligeti, Messiaen, Ohana, Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Rautavaara, Skryabin, and Stravinsky).

On Saturday 11 May, the 24 semi-finalists are announced at the end of the evening.
